ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to identify the positive school culture base on human relationships, open system, rational goal, and internal process (Quinn, 1988) of primary schools in Sekolah Kebangsaan and Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina in Kedah. This study also attemps to identify the relationship between positive school culture, academic achievement, organization commitment, and leadership behaviour. Two method of data collection are employed in this study, namely survey method and qualitative study. The School Culture Inventory (SCI) (Maslowski, 2001),Organizational Commitment (OC) (Meyer & Allen, 1990), and The Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ5x)(Bass & Avolio, 2000) was used for the survey instrument. A total of 141 headmasters and 657 teachers in primary schools responded to the survey questionnaires. The qualitative approach, on the other hand, utilizes document analysis and interview technique. Four headmasters and 16 teachers took part in the face-to-face interviews. The statistical analysis used are the Spearman Correlation, Analysis of Variance, Multivariate Analysis of Variance, and Multiple Regression Analysis. The analysis found a significant difference between the positive school culture in high and low performing schools and Sekolah Kebangsaan and Sekolah Jenis Kebangsan Cina. The results also reveal that a significant relationship does exist between positive school culture, students’ achievement, organization commitment, and leadership behavior. The findings from the qualitative study strongly supported quantitative study. Considered individually, school culture is significant in predicting school performance and factors that influent teachers’ commitment. In conclusion, positive school culture relatively more practiced in high performance schools compare to low performance schools and correlated with the teachers’ commitment, school leadership and school performance. Implications for creating positive school culture and suggestions for further study are also included.

This research use more than 2 statically analysis which are Spearman Correlation, Analysis of Variance, Multivariate Analysis of Variance, and Multiple Regression Analysis to analyse the data. Moreover, the researcher also used interview method and document analysis to triangulate the data.

1.0      Pengenalan

Mata pelajaran matematik atau dahulunya dikenali sebagai ilmu hisab menikmati kedudukan istimewa dalam pendidikan di Malaysia. Keadaan ini berlaku kerana matematik telah menjadi salah satu subjek yang wajib diambil oleh semua pelajar dalam sistem persekolahan negara bermula daripada Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR), Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR), Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), dan sebahagian pada Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM).

Laporan kajian ini merujuk kepada penilaian tentang pengaruh sikap, minat, pengajaran guru, dan rakan sebaya terhadap pencapaian pelajar dalam mata pelajaran matematik. Pengkajian tentang pengaruh ini dinilai sebagai kesinambungan daripada kajian-kajian terdahulu yang melihat pelbagai faktor serta hubungannya dengan pencapaian pelajar dalam persekolahan mereka. Justeru kajian ini akan hanya memfokuskan kepada pencapaian pelajar dalam matematik di tingkatan empat.

Abstrak
:
Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenal pasti hubungan antara budaya formal sekolah dan gaya pembela jaran pela jar dengan pencapaian akademik pelajar sekolah menengah. Seramai 234 orang responden yang dipilih adalah berdasarkan kaedah persampelan rawak kelo mpok iaitu kluster atas kluster di lima buah sekolah menengah sekitar daerah Pontian, Johor. Kajian rintis dija lankan untuk melihat kebolehpercayaan dan kesesuaian soal selidik. Manaka la Alpha Cronbach digunakan untuk mengukur keteka lan dalaman soal selidik. Nilai kebolehpercayaan Alpha Cronbach bagi keseluruhan soal selidik ini ialah 0.953. Soal selidik berka itan dengan budaya forma l sekolah dia mb il dan diubah suai dari borang pengesanan iklim atau budaya forma l sekolah yang dibina o leh Pusat Perke mbangan Kurikulu m (1988). Manakala soal selidik berkaitan gaya pembela jaran pelajar diambil dan diubah suai dari soal selid ik Barbe Modality Index yang telah dibina oleh Barbe (1985). Statistik deskriptif ia itu frekuensi, min dan sisihan piawai d igunakan untuk mengenal pasti budaya formal seko lah dan gaya pembela jaran pela jar yang paling dominan sertamengenal pasti tahap pencapaian akademik pelajar. Manakala statistik inferensi iaitu ana lisis ko relasi Pearson pada paras signifikan 0.05 digunakan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara budaya forma l seko lah dan gaya pembelajaran dengan pencapaian akademik pelajar. Selain itu, ujian-t digunakan untuk mengetahui perbezaan antara budaya forma l sekolah dan gaya pembelajaran mengikut lokasi sekolah. Hasil ka jian mendapati bahawa budaya formal sekolah yang paling dominan
adalah budaya formal sekolah berdasarkan dari aspek sosial. Manakala gaya pembela jaran pelajar yang paling dominan adalah gaya pembelaja ran berdasarkan dari aspek visual. Selain itu, terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara budaya formal sekolah dan gaya pembela jaran dengan pencapaian akademik pelajar. Oleh itu, beberapa cadangan dikemukakan dalam kajian ini. Antaranya ialah guru dan pelajar harus mengenal pasti budaya formal sekolah dan gaya pembelajaran pelajar agar dapat meningkatkan pencapaian akademik pelajar

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of using ICT (Microsoft Excel) in teaching and learning fractions. The study was conducted at a school in Baram, Sarawak. Action research on quantitative research sample consisted of 35 students at a school in Baram. This study uses ICT as an independent variable and student achievement in post-test as the dependent variable. This study used a brief Microsoft excel program named Fractions pizza to determine the effectiveness in teaching and learning using information communication technology. Data analysis is done using SPSS version 17 for descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The findings indicated that the mean score of students in the pre-test was 68.16 while the mean score of students in the post-test is 93.95. T test statistic was significant (t = -4.502; df = 34: p ). This means treatment or Microsoft excel program conducted by the researcher has resulted in improved student achievement. The data obtained have shown that teaching and learning are very effective use of ICT in learning fraction. Overall, the use of ICT contributed in improving teaching and learning in fractions.
